Mohammad Amir Strikes Again: Dismisses Babar Azam to Fuel Quetta’s Dominant Win

Quetta Gladiators’ veteran pacer Mohammad Amir once again showcased his big-match temperament by dismissing Peshawar Zalmi’s captain, Babar Azam, in a crucial HBL Pakistan Super League (PSL) 10 encounter at Lahore’s Gaddafi Stadium.

Amir, who had already removed Babar for a duck in their first meeting this season, delivered another decisive blow by trapping the star batter lbw with a clever in-swinger in just the third over of Zalmi’s innings. His animated celebration, directed towards the Gladiators’ dugout, captured the intensity of the moment and set the tone for Quetta’s commanding 64-run victory, which was later sealed by Faheem Ashraf’s remarkable five-wicket haul.

Speaking to reporters after the match, Amir emphasized the importance of healthy on-field rivalries in keeping T20 cricket entertaining.

“Whether on the field or social media, these rivalries entertain people, especially in T20s—that’s the main goal,” Amir said. “As a bowler, my role is to tease the batter and show aggression, while the batter aims to score runs. These things should happen, but within limits.”

Despite the fierce contest, Amir was respectful in his assessment of Babar, praising his stature in world cricket.

“Babar Azam is a big player, there is no doubt in that,” Amir acknowledged. He further explained the tactical move behind Babar’s dismissal, saying, “My plan is always to utilise the swing with the new ball. Whoever it is, Saim or Babar. I thought Babar would be ready for the outswinger, so I tried to bring it back in.”

Amir’s early strike not only disrupted Zalmi’s innings but also reaffirmed his reputation as one of the most street-smart bowlers in the PSL. His high-profile duel with Babar added an extra layer of drama to the tournament, proving once again that personal battles on the field are at the heart of T20 cricket’s enduring appeal.
