AB de Villiers Hints at Casual Cricket Comeback

Legendary South African Cricketer Considers Fun Return

AB de Villiers, known as one of cricket’s most innovative batsmen, has hinted at a potential return to the field—but this time, it won’t involve the pressures of professional cricket or international tours.

The 45-year-old retired legend, who bid farewell to all formats of cricket in 2021, revealed in a recent Running Between The Wickets interview that his children have been encouraging him to pick up the bat again.

A Fun Comeback on the Cards?

De Villiers expressed openness to the idea of a casual return, stating:
“If I enjoy it, maybe I’ll play a bit of casual cricket somewhere.”

Although he admitted his left eye isn’t as sharp as it once was, his right eye remains in good condition, giving him hope for a fun stint in the nets.

He emphasized that his return would not include competitive cricket, such as the IPL or international matches for South Africa:
“We’re not talking about RCB and big stuff. I don’t want to feel that pressure again. I just want to have some fun.”

Inspiration from Imran Tahir

De Villiers also expressed admiration for former teammate Imran Tahir, who continues to play professionally, and hinted at teaming up with him for casual cricket. However, he clarified that this potential return would purely be for personal enjoyment.

AB de Villiers’ Legacy

Regarded as one of the most entertaining cricketers in history, AB de Villiers has over 20,000 international runs to his name and remains a fan favorite worldwide.

While his competitive days seem to be behind him, his possible return to casual cricket will undoubtedly delight fans eager to see him wield the bat once again, even in a non-professional setting.
