ChatGPT Can Now Replace Google’s Gemini as Default Assistant on Android

Android users now have a new choice for their default digital assistant! The latest beta version of the ChatGPT app allows users to replace Google’s Gemini with OpenAI’s chatbot, bringing AI-powered assistance directly into Android’s core functionality.

How to Set ChatGPT as Your Default Assistant

Once enabled, ChatGPT can be accessed using standard Android navigation gestures:
Three-Button Navigation: Hold the home button to launch ChatGPT.
Gesture Navigation: Swipe up and hold from the bottom corners of the screen.
Power Button Shortcut: If enabled, long-press the power button to open ChatGPT.

When launched, ChatGPT will immediately enter voice mode, allowing users to give voice commands. However, there’s no wake-word activation (like “Hey Google”) yet due to API restrictions.

When Will This Feature Be Available?

Currently, this feature is only available in the beta version of the ChatGPT app. OpenAI has not announced an exact date for its full public rollout, so users who are not in the beta program may need to wait.

This update gives Android users more options for their digital assistant, letting them choose between Google’s Gemini and ChatGPT based on their preferences.
