Daryl Mitchell Refutes Claims About Not Returning to Pakistan, Expresses Love for the Country
New Zealand’s batting all-rounder Daryl Mitchell has swiftly dismissed media reports suggesting that he vowed never to return to Pakistan following the suspension of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) 10.
Mitchell, who played for the Lahore Qalandars in PSL 10, was among several international players who returned home after the tournament’s temporary halt. However, upon arriving in New Zealand, Mitchell issued a heartfelt statement through Lahore Qalandars, reaffirming his affection for Pakistan and expressing his eagerness to return.
“It’s been tough to watch two countries that are so close to my heart in conflict over the past few days. My thoughts are with those affected on both sides,” Mitchell said.
Reflecting on his career, he added, “Both the PSL and IPL have played major roles in my career, and I’ve always cherished my time in both tournaments. I hope peace prevails and we can get back to playing the game we love and continue giving back to the amazing people who support us.”
While Mitchell expressed happiness about reuniting with his family, he made it clear that his connection with Pakistan remains strong. “It feels good to be heading home to my family, but I’m also looking forward to returning to both countries in the future — places I truly love spending time in,” he concluded.
Earlier, some Indian media outlets, quoting Lahore Qalandars’ player Rishad Hossain, falsely reported that Mitchell declared he would never return to Pakistan. Mitchell’s prompt clarification has helped quell these rumors, further strengthening his bond with Pakistani cricket fans.
Meanwhile, plans to resume PSL 10 are underway following the formal announcement of a ceasefire between Pakistan and India. Reports suggest Rawalpindi could host the remaining eight matches, with overseas players stationed in Dubai and local players gearing up for the continuation of the tournament.
Daryl Mitchell’s heartfelt response highlights the strong ties international players share with Pakistan and the spirit of cricket that transcends borders, even in challenging times.
