Shanaka Highlights Pakistan’s Strengths in Home Conditions
Sri Lankan captain Dasun Shanaka has tipped Pakistan as one of the strongest contenders for the ICC Champions Trophy 2025, citing their ability to thrive in home conditions.
In an exclusive interview with Cricket Pakistan, Shanaka praised the hosts for their capability to perform in front of their passionate home crowd.
“Pakistan will definitely give a fight in the Champions Trophy,” Shanaka stated, while also acknowledging other teams like Australia, India, and England as formidable opponents.
“They are also top contenders; you cannot write them off,” he added.
Champions Trophy Key Dates
- Opening Match: Pakistan vs. New Zealand on February 19 in Karachi.
- Pakistan vs. India: A blockbuster clash scheduled for February 23 in Dubai.
- Final: The final will be held in Lahore, but if India qualifies, it will be shifted to Dubai due to political sensitivities.
To account for potential weather disruptions, a reserve day has been allocated for the final.
National Stadium Karachi Nears Completion
In preparation for the prestigious tournament, the renovation and upgrade of the National Stadium Karachi are in the final stages.
Initially set for completion by December 15, the deadline was extended multiple times, with the final date now confirmed as January 31, 2025.
- Arshad Khan, General Manager of the stadium, and Mohammad Bilal Chohan, Project Manager, assured that the project will be finished on schedule.
- Renovations began on October 22 under the leadership of Mohsin Naqvi and involve various construction firms working to ensure the stadium meets ICC standards.
