The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman, Mohsin Naqvi, has provided an encouraging update on Saim Ayub’s recovery, ensuring fans that the young opener is on track to regain full fitness. Ayub, who suffered an ankle injury during the opening day of the Cape Town Test against South Africa, is expected to have his plaster removed within the next two days.
Speaking during his visit to the United States, Naqvi underscored the PCB’s priority on player welfare. “I am in constant touch with the team regarding his condition, and I will not risk his future for a single event,” he assured.
Ayub has been prescribed six weeks of rest, with reports from London-based medical specialists confirming that surgery is not required. Instead, a well-structured rehabilitation program will guide his return to fitness. His selection for upcoming matches, however, hinges on medical clearance after his recovery phase.
Once Ayub transitions into the rehabilitation phase, the PCB plans to monitor his progress closely to ensure a seamless and complete recovery.
ICC Champions Trophy Squad Updates
Preparations for the ICC Champions Trophy are in full swing. Sources suggest that the Pakistan squad for the tournament will feature key players, including captain Babar Azam, Mohammad Rizwan, Shaheen Shah Afridi, and Fakhar Zaman.
While Ayub’s inclusion remains uncertain, it will be subject to his medical condition and doctors’ recommendations. The selection committee has reportedly finalized the squad, pending approval from Chairman Mohsin Naqvi.
Naqvi’s commitment to maintaining a strong yet balanced team reflects PCB’s strategy to prioritize player health while gearing up for the high-stakes ICC Champions Trophy.
