Qatar Airways Achieves Record $2.1 Billion Profit Amid Global Expansion and Boeing Mega Deal

Qatar Airways has reported a 28% surge in annual net profit, reaching a record 7.8 billion Qatari riyals ($2.1 billion), according to a preliminary statement issued by the airline on Monday.

While detailed revenue and passenger traffic data were not disclosed, the full annual report is expected later today. The profit boost underscores Qatar Airways’ growing dominance in the global aviation sector, bolstered by strategic investments and record-breaking fleet expansion.

“We have successfully implemented strategic partnerships throughout the industry to remain agile amid ever-shifting world events—political, economic, or environmental,” said CEO Badr Mohammed Al-Meer.

Strategic Global Investments

In its push to expand connectivity and increase global market share, Qatar Airways made two key acquisitions over the past year:

  • 25% stake in Virgin Australia

  • 25% stake in Airlink, a South Africa-based regional carrier

These investments support Qatar Airways’ strategy to grow passenger numbers and enhance its international route network.

Record $96 Billion Boeing Order

In a historic move, Qatar Airways placed a firm order for 160 Boeing 777X and 787 aircraft equipped with GE Aerospace engines. The deal, valued at $96 billion, marks the largest-ever widebody aircraft order for both Boeing and GE Aerospace.

The airline also secured options for 50 additional Boeing aircraft, reinforcing its long-term growth strategy and fleet modernization goals.

Passenger Growth Exceeding Market Averages

According to Chief Commercial Officer Thierry Antinori, Qatar Airways experienced above-market growth in passenger numbers from April 2024 to January 2025:

  • 9% growth network-wide

  • 14% increase in Europe

  • 12% growth in Germany

This reflects the airline’s strong recovery post-pandemic and increasing demand for international travel through Doha’s strategic hub.

Qatar Airways Denies Office Closure Rumors in Pakistan

Despite circulating media reports, the airline rejected claims of office closures in Pakistan, reaffirming its ongoing commitment to the South Asian market.
