Saim Ayub Shines on Comeback, Saud Reflects on Loss, Mendis Lauds PSL Pace Attack

Saim Ayub on Fire: Credits Babar Azam, Hails Zalmi Culture

Peshawar Zalmi’s Saim Ayub made a stunning return to the Pakistan Super League (PSL) after injury, blasting a 37-ball fifty against Quetta Gladiators, including four sixes and three boundaries.

More than just runs, it was the story behind his return that stole hearts.

Speaking after the match, the young left-hander credited Babar Azam for playing a key role in his growth.

“Babar bhai treats everyone equally and makes partnerships enjoyable. I plan my approach based on who I’m batting with,” Saim said.

He described his rehabilitation journey from an ankle injury sustained during Pakistan’s Test tour of South Africa as “challenging but enjoyable.”

“The PCB supported me throughout. I missed everything — the energy of the ground, batting, even fielding.”

Zalmi Spirit and Foster’s Influence

Saim, just 22 years old, expressed joy at rejoining Peshawar Zalmi, calling the team culture “fantastic.”

“We enjoy every moment together. James Foster, our batting coach, has been incredible — every chat with him is a lesson.”

He wrapped up his statement with heartfelt words for his supporters:

“Keep supporting me like you always have. It means a lot.”

Saud Shakeel Reflects on Defeat vs Lahore Qalandars

In contrast to Saim’s high, Quetta Gladiators captain Saud Shakeel was left to reflect on what went wrong after his team’s heavy defeat to Lahore Qalandars in Rawalpindi.

Speaking candidly post-match, Saud admitted:

“We didn’t pick our best team. Our strength is in spin, and we didn’t capitalize. Fakhar, Mitchell, and Billings played brilliantly.”

The Gladiators’ strategy to neutralize Shaheen Afridi backfired as they lost quick wickets early in the innings.

“Shaheen is their strike bowler — our plan was to deny him wickets, but we failed. Chasing becomes tough from there.”

He also noted that the pitch played as expected for Pindi — a batter-friendly surface.

Kusal Mendis Applauds PSL’s Fast Bowling Quality

Sri Lanka’s Kusal Mendis, representing Quetta Gladiators in his debut PSL season, shared high praise for the league’s pace bowling standard.

“I’ve played in the LPL and SA20, but PSL’s fast bowling stands out. The quality here is really impressive.”

He added that Pakistan’s batting-friendly pitches make it an exciting challenge and credited his power-hitting training in Sri Lanka for helping him adapt.

“I’ve been working on my power game. I don’t mind batting at any number — I’m ready for any role the team needs.”
