Sarfaraz Ahmed Reflects on Future in International Cricket and His Karachi Roots

Former Pakistan captain Sarfaraz Ahmed has acknowledged the inevitability of retirement, stating that he will step away from international cricket when the time feels right.

Sarfaraz on Retirement Plans

In an exclusive interview with Cricket Pakistan, Sarfaraz addressed his future, saying:

“Every player has to say goodbye to cricket at some point. When I feel my time is up, I will leave the sport myself.”

Fond Memories of Karachi’s Buffer Zone

Sarfaraz also shared his deep-rooted connection to his childhood neighborhood in Karachi’s Buffer Zone, where he still resides.

“I still live in the same street where I was born. The people there have always showered me with love and support,” he said.

He credited the narrow lanes of Karachi and tape-ball cricket for shaping his career:

“My cricket career started in those streets, and perhaps my future life will also be spent there.”

A Career Shaped by Street Cricket

Sarfaraz emphasized that his early struggles and hard work in street cricket were the key to his international success.

“The hard work and experiences from those early days are the secret behind my success.”

Recent Career Updates

  • Left out of Quetta Gladiators’ squad for the current Pakistan Super League (PSL) season.
  • Replaced by Rilee Rossouw as captain in the previous PSL edition.
  • Last Test appearance: December 2024.
  • Last ODI appearance: Against South Africa in 2021.

While his future remains uncertain, Sarfaraz Ahmed’s legacy as a former captain and veteran wicketkeeper-batter continues to inspire young cricketers in Pakistan.
