Virat Kohli Criticizes BCCI’s Family Stay Restrictions on International Tours

Kohli Calls BCCI’s Family Stay Rules “Disappointing”

Indian cricket superstar Virat Kohli has voiced his frustration over the Board of Control for Cricket in India’s (BCCI) new family stay restrictions for players during international tours.

Speaking at the Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s Innovation Lab Indian Sports Summit, Kohli emphasized the emotional importance of spending time with loved ones, particularly after high-pressure matches.

New BCCI Regulations: Limited Family Time on Tours

Under the new BCCI policy, family members can stay with players for only two weeks on tours lasting 45 days or more. This rule meant that no player had family privileges during the recent ICC Champions Trophy, unless arranged privately or with prior board approval.

Expressing disappointment, Kohli said:

“People who have no control over what is going on are kind of brought into conversations and put out in the forefront. Maybe they need to be kept away.”

The new restrictions are part of a 10-point guideline introduced following India’s Border-Gavaskar Trophy defeat. The rules also include mandatory domestic cricket participation and stricter travel policies for players’ wives and girlfriends.

Kohli on Social Media & Personal Focus

Kohli also addressed his reduced social media presence, stating that he no longer feels the need to share personal milestones online.

“Posting about us winning the Champions Trophy is not going to increase the happiness in my heart. People saying ‘oh, you’re amazing’ in the comments doesn’t matter.”

The former Indian captain added that technology can be a distraction, and he has consciously reduced his social media engagement to focus on his game and personal life.

Will BCCI Revise the Policy?

With player well-being becoming an increasing concern, it remains to be seen whether BCCI will reconsider its family stay restrictions based on feedback from Kohli and other players.
